December 18, Fineko/abc.az. As a result of reforms in the taxi service sector in Azerbaijan, the number of taxi trips to Baku has decreased by about 14%.
ABC.AZ reports that Anar Rzayev, the chairman of board of the Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency (under the Ministry of Digital Development & Transport) made the above-said statement at the presentation of the Mobility Transformation Program in Azerbaijan.
"The analysis shows that, in particular, the number of taxi trips to or from the metro has seriously declined. By reducing short-distance trips, the average travel distance has increased from 8.5 km to 10 km. Also, the number of daily bus transportation increased by 100,000 people and reached 1.6 million," he said.
In addition, the deputy minister noted that taxi operators began to work on a permissive basis, taxi drivers were involved in training to improve the level of service to citizens:
"To date, more than 14,000 drivers have applied for trainings held at the Land Transport Agency’s training center. Over 11,000 of them took part in the trainings. But this is not the final solution to the issue. At the beginning of next year, technical requirements will be applied to taxi vehicles. The approval of the requirements is currently in the final stage."
