YouTube starts blocking videos to users of ad blockers

November 1, Fineko/abc.az. YouTube video service has expanded efforts to combat ad blockers.

ABC.AZ reports that YouTube has launched a global initiative designed to encourage users to add a resource to the exceptions in the ad blocker settings or subscribe to YouTube Premium.

Some viewers are notified that "video playback is blocked until YouTube is whitelisted or the ad blocker is disabled".

The offer to subscribe to YouTube Premium is also demonstrated. In some cases, the platform is limited to a warning, but users are increasingly faced with the refusal to play videos.

In June, the YouTube administration confirmed that it had disabled video playback for those who use ad blockers, but at that time Mr. Lawton called the initiative "a small global experiment", now its action has expanded, and in recent weeks more and more complaints about video blocking have been received. The administration of the service notes that the use of ad blockers violates the terms of service: "advertising supports a diverse ecosystem of authors around the world and allows billions of people to have access to their favorite content on YouTube".
