September 18, Fineko/abc.az. Meta is considering an option of introducing paid subscriptions in Facebook and Instagram, which will not contain advertising for users in the European Union, ABC.AZ reports with reference to The Wall Street Journal.
This could be a response to regulatory scrutiny and a sign of how people perceive technology in the United States and Europe.
“Instagram and Facebook subscriptions will not see ads in the apps. This can help Meta avoid privacy issues and other checks by EU regulators by providing users with an alternative to the company's advertising services that rely on the analysis of people's data," Meta says.
Meta will also continue to offer free versions of Facebook and Instagram with ads in the European Union, according to the sources.
It is unclear how much the paid versions of the applications will cost and when the company will be able to release them.
