June 19, Fineko/abc.az. It is proposed to make a number of amendments to the Law on Road Transport and other laws concerning passenger transportation. The amendments were approved in the 1rst reading at an extraordinary session of the parliament on June 16.

ABC.AZ reports that the changes also establish a number of requirements for cars and taxi drivers. At that, it is assumed that legal entities and individuals engaged in taxi activities will receive permits. There are assumptions in society that these changes will affect the prices of taxi services. There are even those who think that the prices of taxi services will be regulated by the state.

Lawyer, expert on transport issues Arshad Huseynov said that the state does not regulate prices for services of this type.

"There is a list of goods and services with regulated prices approved by the Cabinet Ministers. The taxi service is not listed in this list. Taxi prices also do not need government regulation. But the envisaged changes in legislation concerning passenger transportation will affect the cost of taxi services. Because the changes contain strict requirements for taxi cars and drivers.

He added that the consequences to which these innovations will lead, society can begin to feel already in 2024.

"But these innovations will be successful when the problems that have accumulated in public transport for many years are solved. The expected results of any major changes in the taxi industry are impossible without solving problems in public transport," the expert stressed.
