May 15, Fineko/abc.az. After the end of the coronavirus pandemic, most countries began to open their land borders.

However, the decision to open land borders in Azerbaijan has not yet been made. For this reason, you can only get to foreign countries by plane. The prices for air tickets in Azerbaijan are few-fold higher than for flights to neighboring countries in the same directions. This is a serious problem for the low-income part of the population, students, those who travel abroad for treatment, etc.

ABC.AZ reports that expert economist Natig Jafarli believes that air tickets in Azerbaijan are very expensive compared to other countries.

In his statement, he said that he himself faced this problem:

"I have to go to Georgia next week. I bought a ticket without luggage for 382 manats. It's very expensive. A 500 km flight inside Europe costs about €60. And we have €200 at the current exchange rate. Prices from Baku to Istanbul also vary from 600 to 800 manats, depending on the type of flight and the amount of luggage. And tickets from Tbilisi to Istanbul are no more expensive than $120-130, which is 200-230 manats. If we compare prices, then, of course, they are much more expensive than in Azerbaijan."
