May 11, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijan space agency Azerkosmos (under the Ministry of Digital Development & Transport), together with Israeli companies, has started implementing new projects of optical observation satellites.

ABC.AZ reports that Azerkosmos chairman of board Samaddin Asadov stated about this during the discussion of the Bill on Space Activities at a meeting of the Milli Majlis Committee on Economic Policy, Industry & Entrepreneurship.

Asadov noted that Azerbaijan will have very high-resolution satellites: "This will serve to increase our security and defense capability. We plan to launch the first satellite of Azersky 2 project into orbit in 2025. Most likely, we will continue to use foreign companies to launch satellites into orbit. As now development of its own satellites is a difficult topic for Azerbaijan. This is not possible in the near future. But at the initial stage, we will prepare the satellites and assemble them.”

According to Asadov, in 2027, domestic specialists plan to prepare and launch satellites into orbit.
