April 10, Fineko/abc.az. Out of every 10 cars in Azerbaijan, 8 are more than 10 years old, ABC.AZ reports, quoting economist-expert Samir Aliyev.
Recalling that Cabinet Ministers’ decree #94 from 28 April will prohibit the import into the territory of Azerbaijan of passenger cars older than 10 years, the expert stressed that every year the age of the car park in the country is growing: "This decision inevitably draws attention to the age of the car park in the country. It turns out that the number and proportion of cars older than 10 years is growing rapidly. In particular, the devaluation has jeopardized this process.
For example, if 62% of passenger cars were older than 10 years in 2014, then in 2021 they increased to 80.2%, and in 2022 to 83.1%. And the share of cars aged less than 5 years fell from 17% to 4.7%. Imagine if before the devaluation every 6th car was new, and in 2021 every 21st car was new. And 8 out of every 10 cars are older than 10 years. The situation with buses and trucks is even more deplorable."
