March 14, Fineko/abc.az. The Azerbaijani mobile market as a whole is a closed market.

ABC.AZ reports that expert economist Natig Jafarli said about this, when speaking about the mobile communications market in Azerbaijan.

He noted that the sphere related to the mobile operator is a closed market, since it is very sensitive and security-related:

"That is, there are almost no foreign investors here. Previously, there were foreign shareholders in Azercell, now they have also left the market. The country is closed to foreign companies wishing to work in this field. That is, as in many areas, this market is closed, so there is no competitive environment. Even in countries smaller than ours, at least 8-10 operators work.”

Jafarli pointed out that apart from the mobile operator operating in Nakhchivan, there are only three operators in Azerbaijan:

"But we can say that there is no competition between them either. It's all the same company. Almost the same rates, the same offers. It is quite possible that there is no competitive environment in this area."
