March 6, Fineko/abc.az. Despite the exemption from customs duties on Pakistani rice in Azerbaijan, its share in imports has significantly decreased compared to the previous year.
ABC.AZ reports that last year, Azerbaijan purchased 50,020 tons of rice abroad (import value: $42.42 million), which means an annual growth of 9% in quantitative terms.
Despite the fact that India, the main supplier of rice to Azerbaijan, began to impose export restrictions last year, Azerbaijan increased imports from this country to 37,564 tons. This means an increase in rice imports from India by more than 24% compared with the previous year. Importing companies of Azerbaijan paid $34.35 million for the purchase of rice in this country.
India's share of total rice imports increased from 66% to 75%.
Thus, if in 2021 each ton of rice that Azerbaijan buys from India was $824.5, then in 2022 it rose in price to $914.3. This means that compared with 2021, each ton rose in price by 11%.
