September 15, Fineko/abc.az. Deputies of the maslikhat (local representative authority) on Thursday at the session voted for renaming the capital of Kazakhstan from Nur-Sultan to Astana.

ABC.AZ reports that 17 proposals were received to rename Nur-Sultan to Astana.

Earlier this September, the deputy group of parliamentarians "Zhana Kazakhstan" (New Kazakhstan) took the initiative to return the former name of Astana to the capital of the republic. President Tokayev was informed about this initiative by the deputies, who in turn referred to the requests of the population. Tokayev agreed to include a proposal to return the former name of the capital of Kazakhstan in the constitutional amendments.

On 14 September, at the next meeting of the parliamentary commission on onomastics, it was unanimously decided to rename the city to Astana.
